    Starting your first therapy session

Congratulations on taking this important step towards your wellbeing!

Therapy is a safe and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with a trained professional. It's like having a trusted guide by your side as you navigate life's challenges.

At Shura Psychology, we already understand how your lifestyle, job, culture or faith affects the way you approach your problems. We help by asking the right questions so you do not have to suffer or feel stressed on your own.

Therapy is about helping you to understand why the same problems and patterns keep returning into your life and learning how to better cope with problems in a way that encourages you to live a more authentic and satisfying life.

  • How to book your first appointment

    1

    Choose your therapy

What type of therapy are you looking for? Choose between therapy for individual, couples, family, or parenting.

Choose whether you want face to face appointments or 'telehealth' appointments (which are online).

    2

    Make an enquiry

Contact Shura Psychology's office to see if we can book an appointment for you.

The receptionist will ask initial questions to make sure we are the right fit for you and inform you of any waiting times.

    3

    Get a referral.

If you need a Mental Health Care Plan, call your GP and ask the receptionist for a "double appointment". If they ask why, let them know you need a mental health care plan.

If you already have your referral details (e.g. Medicare, NDIS, TAC, Work cover, Private Insurance), move to the next step.

    4

    Book an appointment

Contact Shura Psychology's office to book your first appointment.

You will be asked to complete intake forms, complete questionnaires, and share payment details before meeting your psychologist.

    5

    Attend your 'session'.

Therapy sessions are usually 50 minutes long.

We recognise how much effort it takes to make your very first appointment, so you will be welcomed warmly by your treating psychologist.
